The Mortal Instruments Book One: City of Bones

Their hidden world is about to be revealed....

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Clary knows she should call the police, but it's hard to explain a murder when the body disappears into thin air and the murderers are invisible to everyone but Clary.

Equally startled by her ability to see them, the murderers explain themselves as Shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, Clary's mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon.

But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

SPOILER ALERT!!! Read at your own RISK!!!

I really loved reading this book. It literally had me at the edge of my seat from the moment I began reading it. A friend of mine lent me her copy to read. I can say that it was-- is one of my favorite books (Series actually. We can't forget about City of Ashes and City of Glass!). I loved how Cassandra Clare created the intricate secret world of Shadowhunters in a modern day setting, New York. Cassandra's masterful prose is phenomenal. I loved every aspect of the book. I mean, what's not to like? It has fantasy, romance, and romance all in one. And not to mention all these awesome characters with struggles that are carefully interwoven into the novel. A daughter's search for her mother leads her to discover secrets that will change the course of her life forever. I mean, it must not be easy finding out that all your life you've been lied to. Like finding out that your mother is a Shadowhunter and that your mother's friend is a werewolf. Oh, right, let's not forget with the fact that your father is a deranged loon who everyone thought had been dead for the last 15 years and that you've fallen in love...with the brother you've never known even existed. As if life isn't already hard enough for a teenager...
